[kgma] PGMA's 10 day working visit to US defended 6/30/08

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga – A ranking government official defended
today the 10-day working visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
saying the trip produced "results" and was far from the "useless
junket" yarn critics have hurled against the Chief Executive's latest
trip abroad.

Deputy Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo said that the amount of pledges
and investments from investors in the United States proved that the
President's working visit was "very productive."

"In New York alone, she (the President) had seven business calls from
big companies. In fact, there is a potential of 15,700 additional jobs
that were committed by these companies – two of which are world
renowned fruit grower Libby's and electronics firm Texas Instruments,"
Fajardo said.

"And then there is this additional investment potential where the
country may earn up to US$ 560-million aside from the pledges from
Filipinos overseas of aid for the victims of typhoon "Frank,"" Fajardo

She pointed out that the talks the President had with US government
officials specifically US President George W. Bush further
strengthened the already solid ties between the two countries as well
as hastened the passing of the long awaited Filipino Veterans Bill to law.

"So hindi useless ang trip ni Pangulo dahil marami siyang naging
accomplishement dito sa trip sa US," Fajardo said.
